Highlands Ranch Goes Hands-Free with Free Rides

June 2, 2025
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this past weekend—because we might be in for a bit of a dip this week. First up, breaking news: flour tortillas narrowly won the giveaway poll on Friday! A close call, but still an impressive victory.
In this issue, we’ve got county-wide updates, a possible chance to catch the northern lights in the coming days, and—considering the temps are on the rise—this month’s giveaway will be gift cards for the winners’ favorite local ice cream spots (since voting was spread across multiple towns).
Plus, we’ve rounded up some great homes to check out before diving into what’s happening around the county this week.
Also, a quick reminder: Wednesdays are for our DougCo Pets of the Week! Send your pet pics to [email protected] to have your furry (or feathery, or scaly!) friend featured!
In today’s DougCo Download:
Make sure to look up the next few nights!

The Digest

Keep an Eye Out for Northern Lights Tonight!
A rare geomagnetic storm sparked by a solar eruption could light up Colorado’s skies with bands of purple, magenta, and green tonight, June 1. The Aurora Borealis was spotted as far south as the Gulf of Mexico early this morning, and there's still a chance for more tonight.
The storm is expected to continue through Monday, June 2, so find a dark spot away from city lights and look north. While visibility in urban areas may be limited, rural parts of Douglas County could offer a rare and stunning light show.
Stay up to date and check out live sightings at spaceweather.com.

Festival Park Farmers Market Opens with Strong Crowd Despite Stormy Skies
Castle Rock's beloved Festival Park Farmers Market kicked off its 2025 season over Memorial Day weekend with nearly 40 vendors and a steady stream of shoppers—despite looming storm clouds. From fire-roasted salsa to fresh-cut flowers, local makers and growers brought their best to the community.
Highlights included Mountain Screamer salsa from Jeremy and Maribel Tobin and first-time vendor Marianne Martinez’s summer flower stand. The market runs every Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM through mid-October at Festival Park. More from Douglas County News.
Parker Police Use Drone to Locate Missing Child Near Trail
A Parker family experienced every parent’s nightmare when their child didn’t return from a visit to the neighborhood playground. After ground crews were unable to locate the child, Parker Police deployed a drone, which quickly spotted the child in a remote area off the Cherry Creek Trail—far from any visible path.
Thanks to the drone’s aerial view, the child was safely located and reunited with their family. A powerful reminder of how technology can play a critical role in community safety. Read more at kdvr.com.
