๐Lone Tree ๐ง Lone Tree Celebrates 30 Years with a Look Back โ and Bold Plans for the Future
As Lone Tree prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary this fall, Mayor Marissa Harmon unveiled the cityโs new tagline, Deep Roots, New Heights, during the 2025 State of the City address. Harmon reflected on the cityโs rich history, from the founding of Schweiger Ranch to major milestones like Park Meadows Mall and the Lone Tree Arts Center.
Looking ahead, she announced a wave of exciting projects, including new housing developments, a justice center, a mobility hub, and the 80-acre High Note Regional Park. Lone Tree continues to honor its past while reaching for a vibrant, innovative future.

๐Highlands Ranch ๐ Douglas County School Board Approves Changes to Elementary Schools in Highlands Ranch, Aiming for Future Growth and Efficiency
The Douglas County School Board has voted to close three elementary schools in Highlands RanchโSaddle Ranch, Heritage, and Acres Greenโby 2026 due to declining enrollment and low birth rates. These schools will be consolidated into nearby schools: Eldorado, Summit View, and Fox Creek. Additionally, the district will transition sixth grade to middle school.
The consolidation plan ensures that all students will continue to receive the necessary resources, while the district will repurpose the empty buildings for future programming. Superintendent Erin Kane emphasized that these adjustments will foster a more sustainable and efficient learning environment, ensuring that the districtโs schools can grow with the community in the years to come.

๐Castle Rock ๐ Douglas County Strengthens Wildfire Response with Expanded Helitack Resources
Douglas County, home to Coloradoโs only locally sponsored helitack team, is boosting its wildfire readiness with new "call-when-needed" contracts for aerial firefighting support. The county commissioners approved agreements with multiple vendors, complementing an exclusive-use helicopter already secured for the 2025 fire season. Officials emphasized the urgency of the effort, with wildfire threats growing and property values at risk.
Despite the ramp-up, the county has avoided raising taxes, funding its initiatives through federal and general funds. As Douglas County braces for a potentially active summer, itโs also exploring future partnerships with neighboring counties for even stronger regional wildfire response capabilities.
More about the wildfire prevention here.
